ASL's Thorsten Burkhardt was interviewed by Leipzig University student radio mephisto 97.6 on the occasion of Stephen King's 70th birthday. In the interview, Thorsten Burkhardt talked about the mass appeal of King's books and his impact on American popular culture in general.

The interview also addressed the new movie adaptation of King's IT and why this book holds such a prominent place in American horror fiction.

ASL's Professor Crister S. Garrett was interviewed by the tagesschau's Ina Böttcher about President Trump's exit from the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.

In his interview, Professor Garrett addressed the controversy of Trump's decision that essentially goes against 70% of the US' population, as well as an overwhelming majority of American businesses that wish to remain a part of the Paris Climate Agreement.

On May 2, current Picador Professor Tom Drury read a selection from his extensive 'Midwest trilogy' encompassing his novels The End of Vandalism, Hunts in Dreams, and his most recent book, Pacific. The reading was held at the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, in cooperation with Klett-Cotta and the Holtzbrinck Veranstaltungsforum. The reading saw up to 50 guests in attendance and was moderated by the director of the Institute for American Studies at Leipzig University, Prof.

On January 31, Prof. Crister S. Garrett, was asked to fact check statements made by guests of the ARD talk show hart aber fair.

Hart aber fair is a talk show where moderator Frank Plasberg discusses current topics of public interest with guests from politics, economics and the society. Together with SWP’s Laura von Daniels, expert on transatlantic trade relations, Prof. Garrett fact checked the recent hart aber fair episode.
