Picador Reading with Porochista Khakpour

On November 28, 2011 Picador Guest Professor Porochista Khakpour read from her novel Sons and Other Flammable Objects and excerpts from a new unpublished work. About 50 people came to the reading at the Skala/Schauspiel Leipzig. The following Q&A was moderated by the TV-journalist Minou Amir-Seh. Among many other topics, Professor Khakpour talked about how the relationship to her parents and her Iranian background influence and inspire her work.

Picador Professor Porochista Khakpour is the guest editor of the November issue of Guernica Magazine, an award-winning online magazine of art and politics which is published twice a month. The November issue is the magazine's first "Iranian-American" issue, a category which Prof. Khakpour explores in her introductory essay.

American Studies Leipzig is honored to announce Porochista Khakpour as the holder of the Picador Guest Professorship for Literature in the winter term of 2011/12.

Porochista Khakpour was born in Tehran in 1978 and raised in the Greater Los Angeles area.
