Picador Reading with Fiona Maazel on May 15

On May 15, 2012, the current Picador Professor Fiona Maazel read from her new novel Woke Up Lonely at the Centraltheater Leipzig. The novel will be published in the spring of 2013 by Graywolf Press and is, as Maazel writes on her website, "about a cult leader, his ex-wife, and the four people he takes hostage. It's about loneliness. North Korea. A city under the city of Cincinnati. Labial reconstruction. Cloud seeding.

Fiona Maazel was born in Cleveland in 1975. She received a Master of Arts from William College in 1997 and a Master of Fine Arts from Bennington College in 2002.

Picador Reading with Porochista Khakpour

On November 28, 2011 Picador Guest Professor Porochista Khakpour read from her novel Sons and Other Flammable Objects and excerpts from a new unpublished work. About 50 people came to the reading at the Skala/Schauspiel Leipzig. The following Q&A was moderated by the TV-journalist Minou Amir-Seh. Among many other topics, Professor Khakpour talked about how the relationship to her parents and her Iranian background influence and inspire her work.
