Students Party for Election, MDR reports

On Nov. 4th, American Studies Leipzig students celebrated a warm-up party for the upcoming presidential election. They met over beer, pizza, and snacks to get ready for a long night of watching TV and following the results as they came in.

Prof. Garrett's office hours - UPDATED

Prof. Garrett’s office hours will take place on November 6. However, due to business travel, his office hours are cancelled from November 12 to November 20. Next office hours will be then on Wednesday, November 26.

UPDATED: Guest Lecture: Simon Koschut of the DGAP Speaks on the Upcoming Elections

 

In a room packed with over 30 students, Simon Koschut of the DGAP spoke on the future of German-American relations in face of the upcoming election. Among others, Koschut discussed the areas of the global financial system, the trade system, foreign policy, and climate change as areas in which different dynamics are going to unfold.

Next to the secretariat on the fifth floor, American Studies Leipzig’s unique Offline Message Board is enjoying increasing attention. Most recently, a party announcement for 30th October has popped up, squeezed in on the left hand side of the board.

Final Call: aspeers still accepts submissions for the 2 (2009) issue on migration and mobility

The Leipzig-based graduate journal aspeers still accepts submissions of student work (both academic and artistic) on the topic of “Migration and Mobility.” The journal is a unique project launched as part of the MA program in 2007. It publishes outstanding work by MA/Magister students in American Studies programs across Europe.

Dr. Gabriele Pisarz-Ramírez receives Senior Lecturer position at University of Groningen in the Netherlands

Dr. Gabriele Pisarz-Ramirez from the American Studies Institute has received a full-time position as Senior Lecturer in American Studies at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Dr. Pisarz-Ramirez has established herself as one of the leading scholars in Latina/o studies. Her book MexAmerica (2005) has received widespread praise.
