The American Studies Alumni Association invites you to attend the first in a series of ASAA Brownbag Luncheons to discuss and explore career opportunities with alumni who have been in your shoes. ASL-ASAA Celebrates Annual Christmas Holiday Bash 2007

The American Studies Alumni Association (ASAA) and ASL hosted their third annual Christmas Holiday Bash on December 20th at the Villa Tillmanns. The festivities got underway with the traditional “ASAA Christmas Lecture,” which was presented by Leo Schmieding this year. Leo introduced some findings from his dissertation on Hip Hop in the GDR during his short but very entertaining talk on “Rap your Presents!

Alumni Association Holds Ceremony for ASL Graduates

On April 20 the American Studies Alumni Association (ASAA) held its annual graduation ceremony for about thirty American Studies graduates at the Villa Tillmanns.

Thirty American Studies graduates, who completed American Studies within the past year, were joined by their families and friends as well as American Studies alumni and members of the ASL faculty to conclude their studies in a festive reception.

ASAA Joins American Author Dave King for Reading in Leipzig

American Studies, Leipzig. 20 November 2006.

On November 16, the ASAA (American Studies Alumni Association) had invited to a literary event with American writer Dave King, who read from his novel The Ha-Ha. A story about the experience of war, about disability, silence, and endurance, The Ha-Ha was published in 2005 to much critical acclaim and soon became a national bestseller. The excerpts that were read by King brought to live a markedly American voice, rich with nuances and complex characters.

ASAA Presents Dave King Reading

The American Studies Alumni Association (ASAA) is proud to announce the following event:

American author Dave King will be reading from his novel “The Ha-Ha.”
King’s debut is an exciting yet graceful novel about the experience of war, about communication, silence, and family.

Dave King lives in Brooklyn and currently is fellow at the American Academy in Rome.
