Study Abroad/Internship Roundtable

The Study Abroad & Internship Roundtable gives interested students the chance to learn more about study abroad and internships as part of their degree program at ASL. Students, who have either studied at a foreign university or did an internship, will talk about their experiences and answer questions. Afterwards we will have an informal get-together, where students can talk with ASL‘s Internationalization Coordinator Anja Eifert and Internship Coordinator Ewa Adamkiewicz and, of course, other students. There will also be snacks and soda.

Ewa Adamkiewicz New ASL Internship Coordinator

This semester Ewa Adamkiewicz takes over the office of the Internship Coordinator at American Studies Leipzig. As Internship Coordinator Ewa manages the internship section of the ASL homepage and helps students who are interested in internships.

You can contact her via asl-internship@uni-leipzig.de and/or see her during her office hours on Tuesdays from 5pm to 6pm. You can find the Internship Support Office in room 3.501


ASL and GACC CA start internship cooperation

On January 15, 2013, ASL students took the opportunity to inform themselves about internship opportunities with the German American Chamber of Commerce California (GACC CA) in Leipzig. Prof. Crister Garrett welcomed GACC CA Executive Director Steve Riedel, who spoke about the different functions GACC CA has, for example the J1-visa service or helping businesses to coordinate transatlantic relations. Steve Riedel emphasized the importance for students to gain professional experiences abroad to sharpen one’s profile. Particularly American studies students, Mr.

Teaching Assistant Position at Binghamton University

The Department of Comparative Literature at Binghamton University (New York) is looking for a teaching assistant for BA classes in German beginning in August 2013. The position is designed for students who also want to pursue a Master’s or a PhD program at Binghamton. The position as a teaching assistant includes a scholarship and tuition is free.

GACCCA Internship Roundtable

Please join us for a roundtable organized by the German American Chamber of Commerce California (GACCCA) and ASL: Steve Riedel, GACCCA Executive Director, and Prof. Crister Garrett will inform about internship opportunities with the German American Chamber of Commerce California in Germany and abroad.

The roundtable should be of particular interest to BA and MA students considering using their international skill set and experience to pursue a career in the private sector broadly defined.

Call for Applications: PROMOS Scholarships for internships and studies abroad

The German academic exchange service (DAAD) is calling for applications for the PROMOS scholarship program which provides financial support for students who want to spend some time abroad as part of their studies. New Internship Section on the ASL Bulletin Board

The internship support service has created a new internship section on the ASL bulletin board
(Floor 5, across the faculty’s offices). On the board we will regularly post current internship positions for Germany, Europe, and Worldwide. Please check the board to read about the latest offers. You can also find more internship offers on our internship website. Occasionally, we also post permanent job offers there.

Workshop: Wege in den anglo-amerikanischen Arbeitsmarkt

The Zentrale Auslands- und Fachvermittlung (ZAV) der Bundesagentur für Arbeit offers a workshop for students and graduates interested in working for a limited amount of time in Canada, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
The workshop offers information on how to organize such a stay abroad and what kind of visa is required for the respective country.

The workshop will take place on November 13, 2012 from 10:00 to 14:00.
