GACCCA Internship Roundtable

Please join us for a roundtable organized by the German American Chamber of Commerce California (GACCCA) and ASL: Steve Riedel, GACCCA Executive Director, and Prof. Crister Garrett will inform about internship opportunities with the German American Chamber of Commerce California in Germany and abroad.

The roundtable should be of particular interest to BA and MA students considering using their international skill set and experience to pursue a career in the private sector broadly defined.

Call for Applications: PROMOS Scholarships for internships and studies abroad

Dear students,

The German academic exchange service (DAAD) is calling for applications for the PROMOS scholarship program which provides financial support for students who want to spend some time abroad as part of their studies. Please check the attached flyer and the PROMOS website for more information and for application procedures.

New Internship Section on the ASL Bulletin Board

The internship support service has created a new internship section on the ASL bulletin board
(Floor 5, across the faculty’s offices). On the board we will regularly post current internship positions for Germany, Europe, and Worldwide. Please check the board to read about the latest offers. You can also find more internship offers on our internship website. Occasionally, we also post permanent job offers there.

Workshop: Wege in den anglo-amerikanischen Arbeitsmarkt

The Zentrale Auslands- und Fachvermittlung (ZAV) der Bundesagentur für Arbeit offers a workshop for students and graduates interested in working for a limited amount of time in Canada, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.
The workshop offers information on how to organize such a stay abroad and what kind of visa is required for the respective country.

The workshop will take place on November 13, 2012 from 10:00 to 14:00.

Career Center Events for ASL Students

This semester the Career Center offers events, lectures, and an excursion that are of particular interest for students of American studies. The events may be helpful for determining your future career.

1. Praxisgespräch with CNC Communications. Nov. 6, 5.15 – 7 pm

Office Hours - Internship Support Service

During the winter term, ASL’s internship coordinator Katharina Freitag will have her office hour on Tuesdays from 4-5 pm, room 3.501.

The first office hour will be on October 16th.

ASL’s internship service offers support for students interested in pursuing an internship in Germany and abroad. We provide information on where to find internships, where to get funding, and how to get credits for an internship.


Career Center's new program online

The Career Center has published its program for the upcoming winter semester. The Career Center offers different workshops and lectures focusing on possible career paths as well as individual counseling. This semester's focus is on working for an NGO. Also of interest for ASL students is the lecture on finding a job in the USA (December 11). For more detailed information on the program, check out their website or see the attachment.

Internship Workshop

The internship workshop is designed to help BA and MA students who are interested in completing an internship as part of their studies. In the workshop, students will get advice on how to find an internship and apply for it, how to apply for financial support, how to prepare for an internship, and how to get credits for it.

This term’s special guest will be Ms. Annegret Cornehl de Paredes, Coordinator for the ERASMUS Internship Program.

Workshop: How to determine your skills for your future career

On September 11, 2012 the Career Center is offering the workshop “Meine Lebenskompetenzen nutzbar machen: Berufliche Orientierung gewinnen durch Selbsterkenntnis über das eigene Wissen und Können.“ The two-day workshop is particularly designed for students of the humanities. In the workshop, students will determine their (soft) skills and strengths that might not be obvious at first glance. The workshop will show how the skills are helpful for the student’s future career.


Weiterbildung zum Exportmanager

Die Universität Leipzig bietet in Zusammenarbeit mit der Firma Conoscope ab November 2012 wieder eine Weiterbildung zum Exportmanager an. Die Weiterbildung richtet sich an Studierende der Sprach- und Geisteswissenschaften deren Sprach- und Kulturkenntnisse in den jeweiligen Exportmärkten gesucht werden. Das Trainingsprogramm zum Exportmanager geht über 4 Monate und beginnt am 3. Novemeber. Voraussetzungen: mindestens laufendes Bachelor Studium ab dem 4. Semester oder universitärer Abschluss.
