Presidential Cookie Wars

The Nominees:

And the nominees are…

Cindy McCain’s Oatmeal-Butterscotch Cookies

Michelle Obama’s Shortbread Cookies

The History:

Hillary Clinton has truly made history when she proclaimed: “I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies” (1992). She didn’t mean to, but she did trigger the invention of the modern cookie wars, which the New York Times describes as a “reactionary cookie contest” and “the brainchild of Family Circle magazine.” Thus, every four years since 1992, the potenial first ladies have a cookie recipe face-off and the readers of Family Circle vote on their favorite. This year is an especially wild race since neither Michelle Obama’s nor Cindy McCain’s recipe includes the magic ingredient (chocolate)… so taste for yourself! And let me know which cookies you prefer ;)
