ASL Holds First Picador Reading

American Studies Leipzig, the DAAD, and the Holtzbrinck Veranstaltungsforum hosted the first Picador reading at the Galerie Pierogi on Thursday night. Picador Professor Tristan Hughes read from two of his novels in the gallery, located in an old industrial complex in Leipzig Plagwitz. Some 50 people attended the reading.

Tristan Hughes read from his second novel, Send My Cold Bones Home (Parthian Books, 2006). It is set on his Welsh home island Ynys Môn which, Hughes said, was an important influence on his writing. He also commented on his teaching experience at the American Studies Institute and his own studies of literature. As a special treat, Tristan Hughes taught the audience some Welsh and read a chapter from his upcoming novel Revenant (to be released in 2008), which he finished writing in Leipzig.

After the reading, the gallery remained open for the audience, who, enjoying food, drinks and live DJ music, eagerly continued the conversation with Tristan Hughes.
