Peter Freese is one of the central figures of German American Studies. He has taught at Kiel, Münster, Leeds, and Paderborn, and has also done work with the Smithsonian Institute, the UCLA, Illinois State and the University of Indiana, among others. From 1993-96, Freese was President of the German Association for American Studies (DGfA). He holds numerous distinctions, among them honorary doctoral degrees from the Lock Haven University (Pennsylvania) and Dortmund University. He has been awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande in 2000 and received a Flag from the Capitol in 1999.

The lecture will be held as part of the BA “Literature and Culture II - The Canon and Popular Culture” Lecture but is open to all students.
