MDR Info Interviews ASL About Presidential Primary

MDR Info, the most listened to source of news on radio in Central Germany (Mitteldeutschland), interviewed American Studies Leipzig today about the implications of the latest round of primary elections in the United States that are part of this presidential election season.

MDR anchorman Alexander Meyer focused his questions on John McCain, asking what the GOP nominee can potentially mean for German-American relations. Crister Garrett responded that McCain represents a “throwback” to the more moderate tradition in Republican politics, having more in common in many ways with Bush Sr. than with his son, the current president. Especially in the area of environmental politics, McCain would be more flexible in terms of engaging German and European Union positions on environmental global governance.
