Picador Reading by James Hopkin

The Veranstaltungsforum der Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck and American Studies Leipzig jointly hosted the second Picador Professorship Reading in the Galerie Pierogi on Thursday, July 12. In the gallery packed with over 70 guests, Picador Professor and novelist James Hopkin read from his novel Winter under Water. He was joined by his guest, anglo-indian writer Priya Basil, who read from her novel Ishq and Mushq.
Based on the excerpts read by both authors journalist Julia Kastein moderated a discussion on living and writing “in Exile,” i.e. outside of one’s own culture and language, in a context that continuously changes one’s perception of oneself and one’s surroundings.
The reading was followed by drinks and snacks. Later on, live music by DJ Haircut had the remaining guests dance in the gallery.
