First Freidel Resident Madeleine Vala Arrives in Leipzig

American Studies Leipzig is proud to welcome Prof. Madeleine Vala (University of Puerto Rico) as its first Frank Freidel Resident. Initiated to mark the Frank Freidel Library’s 10th anniversary, the residency-program allows scholars to pursue research projects at American Studies Leipzig and its library. The Frank Freidel Library has extensive holdings in the fields of United States history, literature, and culture as well as access to the fields’ most important data bases. Frank Freidel Residents benefit from these resources and from ASL’s vibrant intellectual life.

During her one-month residency, Madeleine Vala will work on a project about US-author Edith Wharton’s portrayal of newspapers as negotiations of her relationship to the press.
