ASL Shows Houston Study Tour Impressions

“Volunteerism, Diversity, and Civic Engagement”


On June 6, American Studies Leipzig inaugurated a photo exhibition on its 2006 study tour to Houston, Texas. About 60 guests joined ASL for the reception and screening of the film. Showing 60 photos taken by the students, the exhibition covers various themes of the tour. The photos are on display until June 20th in the GWZ Foyer (Beethovenstraße 15).

On the occasion, ASL showed Daniel Finck’s documentary Volunteerism, Diversity, and Civic Engagement. The one hour movie covered major themes and impressions of the study tour. The informative and entertaining movie received many compliments for its documentary and artistic qualities.

Background Information: Study Tour Houston 2006

In October 2006, fourteen ASL students and their professor visited Houston in Texas. The study tour included several meetings with universities, churches, political parties, different citizen interest groups and representatives of the city of Houston. Major themes of the study tour were civic engagement and local participation especially with a focus on Houston’s response to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Texas.
