Enrollment Procedure for MA American Studies

For German Applicants | For International Applicants

The following information is relevant for all applicants who wish to enter the MA American Studies in 2007.

For German Applicants

Once you are accepted into the MA American Studies program, you need to enroll at the University’s Student Administration Office (Studentensekretariat). The enrollment is carried out in two steps:

First, you need to enroll online via Portal 3 (German only). You have to fill in personal information and the program you wish to enroll in. You need to enroll until September 15, 2007.

Then, you receive an application number (important for further reference) and your enrollment application (Anmeldung zur Zulassung/Einschreibung). You must print this application, sign it and send it in until September 30, 2007 to the Student Administration Office along with the following documents:

  • proof that you are eligible to study (i.e. Abitur or equivalent certificate)
  • first degree certificate
  • UniCard form (incl. passport photograph)
  • up-to-date proof of health insurance
  • entrance exam certificate (Eignungsprüfung)
  • stamped addressed return envelope

The following documents need to be included only if you are currently enrolled in another degree program in Germany or have already graduated from a technical college or university:

  • enrollment certificate (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung)
  • intermediate exam certificate (Zwischenprüfungszeugnis)
  • degree certificate (Abschlusszeugnis)
  • credit points transfer (Anrechnungsbescheid, can be downloaded here)
  • certificate that you left university (Exmatrikulationsnachweis)

All certificates and documents should be included as certified copies.

Your enrollment will be confirmed until mid-October. Information on the status of your enrollment can be found here. (You need your application number and birth date to log on.)

Once you are enrolled, you will receive a confirmation letter, a temporary enrollment confirmation, a request to pay the semester fee, and general information. Then, you need to register by mail. Your enrollment will only be completed after you paid the semester fee.
