Creativity and Crisis: China, Germany, and the United States in the Trans(l)ational Age

Fri, 11/25/2016 - 13:30 to 18:00

In an age of tremendous upheavals, is there still room for creativity? Or does creativity especially thrive in crises, or even provide answers to them?

The symposium brings together scholars, editors, writers, translators and students from multiple fields to consider new approaches to today’s pressing difficulties. Arts and humanities should be used, as they were formerly used, to offer ways of thinking about crises of the moment, be they environmental, socioeconomic, political, personal, or philosophical.

We hold the belief that an interdisciplinary approach creates dynamic synergies and translation is essential to such an approach for recording our shared humanity and facing situations where our humanity is threatened. Our hope is to re-integrate arts and humanities into the larger conversations.
