Seventh BART Research Bash (GWZ Room 2.5.16)

In our continuing effort to familiarize students with the research projects of scholars at American Studies Leipzig, ASL will host the next BART Research Bash, an informal event with snacks and soda in which two of the institute‘s scholars discuss both their present research interests and their scholarly biography.

The speakers will be:

Picador Prof. Lauren K. Alleyne

ASL's current Picador Professor, Lauren K. Alleyne holds an M.F.A. in Poetry and a graduate certificate in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Cornell University. Alleyne’s fiction, poetry and non-fiction has been widely published in various journals and anthologies, and it has been awarded numerous prizes. She has recently published her first collection of poetry, Difficult Fruit, to great critical acclaim. Alleyne is currently a Poet-in-Residence and an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Dubuque, Dubuque, IA.

Dr. Florian Bast

Having graduated from the University of Leipzig in 2008, Dr. Florian Bast recently finished work on his doctoral thesis on agency in the novels of Octavia Butler. His broader research interest lies in American fiction writing, movies, and TV series. Dr. Bast has taught and done extensive scholarly work on subjects such as the neo-slave narrative, vampires, trauma, and African American literature. In addition, Dr. Bast manages ASL's Picador Guest Professorship for Literature.

Prior registration is not necessary. Anybody interested in the scholarly work at ASL is invited. Please also refer to the attached poster for information.
