American Studies Leipzig regularly cooperates with a number of other institutions for teaching and research purposes, but also to reach out to the wider public in order to facilitate a broader dialog about the United States and its place in the world. You can learn more about some of these cooperating partners below.

DAIS: Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut Sachsen

DAIS is an independent non-profit institution that is dedicated to promoting transatlantic dialog, which includes European-American, German-American, and Saxon-American relations. DAIS organizes numerous public events, including lectures, workshops, roundtables, and screenings, that aim to enhance the wider public's understanding of US culture. They also maintain close ties to other public institutions across the region and reach out to the public via social and digital media (e.g. through podcasts).

You can find out more about DAIS and its activities through their website.

University Library / American Space Leipzig

A particularly close connection between ASL and the University Library is formed through American Space Leipzig, an initiative between the US Consulate General Leipzig, the University Library, and ASL intended to promote exchange and dialog between the United States and Germany. While there are hundreds of American Spaces worldwide, American Space Leipzig, started in 2013, was the first one in Eastern Germany.

The American Space is physically located at the Bibliotheca Albertina, and you can also find more information about it on the DAIS website, which coordinates its program.

US Consulate General Leipzig

Through DAIS and the American Space Leipzig, but also through additional events organized directly at ASL, we also enjoy strong ties to the US Consulate General in Leipzig. The consulate was reopened after German reunification in 1992 and is responsible for official US relations in the German states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia.

You can find out more about the responsibilities and activities of the US Consulate General in Leipzig on their website.

Holtzbrinck Berlin – Inspire Together

The Picador Guest Professorship for Literature is a cooperation between ASL, the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group, and the German Academic Exchange Service. In addition to the general coordination of the professorship, we especially cooperate with Holtzbrinck Berlin – Inspire Together on the public events and lectures of the Picador professor.

ASL additionally cooperates with other institutions and participates in a number of networks (e.g. of American Studies professorships in the Mitteldeutschland region) both through individual members and as an institution. You can learn more about some of these cooperations and the events that have resulted from them throughout our website.

Furthermore, ASL maintains teaching cooperations with other institutes for our BA and MA programs and also works together with scholars from other institutes and departments for research projects, for instance in the Collaborative Research Center "Processes of Spatialization under the Global Condition."
