Alyn Euritt

I study the aesthetics of intimacy and liveness in podcasting publics. This project has two main goals. The first is to develop a definition/framework for intimacy in podcasting. The second is to examine how intimacy contributes to the creation and maintenance of podcasting publics. In doing this work, I’m finding that podcasting’s liminality in terms of “new” and “old” media provides a useful tool in understanding the temporalities of circulation in the (digital) public sphere and how they contribute to communitiy building.

After finishing my MA at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies, my work as an English teacher and Director of Studies for German Lessons for Refugees in Dresden sparked my current interest in the role of listening in public discourse. I’ve also worked in a variety of academic contexts, including as a guest researcher and Fulbright Teaching Assistant at the Université libre de Bruxelles; student assistant at the John F. Kennedy Institute; and English, French, and Beginning German Tutor as well as History Facilitator at California State University Long Beach. I am currently a Dozentin (lecturer) in English at the IHK Dresden in a program funded through the European Union’s Europäischer Sozialfonds (ESF) and the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB).
