Guest Lecture: Prof. David Goldfield "The 2022 Midterm Elections"

Wed, 05/25/2022 - 13:15 to 14:45

The U.S. General Consulate Leipzig in cooperation with American Studies Leipzig cordially invites you to “The 2022 Midterm Elections”, a guest lecture and discussion with Prof. Dr. David Goldfield, Robert Lee Bailey Professor of History at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.

The event will take place on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 1:15 - 2:45 pm at HS 8 (Lecture Hall 8) on Campus Augustusplatz, Universitätsstraße 3, 04109 Leipzig. The event is free and open to the public.

A total of 469 seats in the U.S. Congress (34 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election on November 8, 2022. The midterm elections will decide who controls the House and Senate in the second half of President Biden’s term. Several high-profile gubernatorial races in key battleground states will also be decided. Midterms often serve as a referendum on the administration in power while setting the table for the next presidential elections.

Prof. Dr. Goldfield will review the Biden administration’s legislative achievements, discuss the history-making nomination of the first African-American candidate to the Supreme Court and comment on factors such as inflation, the pandemic, and the conflict with Russia and developments in the Democratic and Republican party.

This event is a cooperation of American Studies Leipzig and the U.S. General Consulate Leipzig.
