Conference "(Post)Colonial Shaming"

Sat, 06/18/2022 - 11:30 to 19:30

The research initiative “Invectivity,” in which several members of ASL are involved, is hosting a conference entitled “(Post)Colonial Shaming: Practices and Materiality of Degredation,” June 16-18, 2022. While the first two days of the conference take place in Dresden, the final day (June 18) will be in Leipzig.

The conference will explore how emotion-based practices such as shaming and humiliation are important for the establishment and consolidation of colonial power structures. In particular, the conference is interested in how such practices have been tied to material objects and the memory cultures around these. Part of the Leipzig-based conference program will take place at Grassi Museum for Ethnology, which acts as a co-convener for the conference. For further details, please check the conference website.
