We wanted to update you on the 2nd-year BA modules we will be offering in the upcoming summer term. As we are working to consolidate the program and its teaching load, starting with this semester, we will not be offering the module The Anglo-American World in a Global Context anymore but will instead increase the thematic variety in other modules. This means that students will have to choose 2 (or more) out of these 4 modules in the course of their studies:

American Studies Leipzig is looking for a motivated student to help with a number of administrative tasks in the upcoming winter term. You are expected to work alongside and in support of the secretariat.

Your duties will include, among others:

• managing the backoffice of teaching projects
• assisting distant-teaching formats
• providing administrative support, e.g. for paperwork involving the university’s central administration

Due to the circumstances caused by COVID-19, we will extend the deadline for the entrance exam of the MA in American Studies to May 25, 2020.

We also want to take this opportunity to reach out to students currently thinking (or perhaps being unsure) about pursuing a follow-up degree to let you know that, while some aspects of the coming winter term might still be in the balance, it is clear that the semester will take place and that we will enroll a new cohort of MA students.

Current Picador Professor Morgan Jerkins's public readings in Leipzig and Berlin both attracted large crowds. In Leipzig, she read from her essay collection This Will Be My Undoing and discussed her work with Senthuran Varatharajah and the audience. The reading took place on October 26 at the Galerie für zeitgenössische Kunst as part of a literary festival co-organized by EDIT and the Literarischer Herbst.

Current Picador Professor Morgan Jerkins was recently interviewed for the print and online edition of die tageszeitung. While the interview focuses on her experiences as a black female writer, she also specifically talks about her tenure at ASL and the courses she teaches this semester.

For the past two years, researchers from around Germany have investigated and discussed 'narrative liminality' in a network funded by the German Research Foundation. As part of their collaboration, they have explored and theorized the boundaries and interrelations between the symbolic forms of narrative, play, data, ritual, spectacle, and others.
