New Publication: Edited Collection “Realität in Serie"

ASL is happy to announce that the edited collection Realität in Serie: Realitätsbehauptungen in zeitgenössischen Fernsehserien was recently published with Springer. Edited by ASL faculty Prof. Katja Kanzler and Dr. Stefan Schubert as well as former ASL faculty Dr. Sophie Spieler, the German-language book investigates constructions of ‘reality’ and ‘realness’ in contemporary television series from an interdisciplinary perspective. It features case studies on shows such as MTV Cribs and Girls, on genres like true crime and the Western, and on overarching questions concerning the cultural, social, and aesthetic potentials of claims to reality and constructions of realness in serial television.

The publication had its roots in the conference “Weiter sehen: Realität in Serie,” which was held at ASL in 2019. The conference, in turn, was part of a conference series organized at TU Dresden.

For members of the university, the edited collection is also accessible via Leipzig’s university library.
