Hessischer Rundfunk Interviews ASL About New Health Care Law

Hesse Public Radio (Hessischer Rundfunk) interviewed ASL live today to help listeners understand the significance of the vote in the House of Representatives in favor of the proposed new structures for health insurance in the United States. Report Gerd Kuhn asked Crister Garrett just how historic this victory is and if it was not a “Phyrric” victory in that Democrats could now lose a lot of support in the upcoming Congressional elections. Garrett stressed that it was indeed a major victory for President Obama (to be compared with the passing of Social Security and Medicare), and that the President did now face the challenge of making clear to American voters how they will benefit concretely from the new law. As for the mid-term elections next fall, the economy will play a large role, as will how the President can tell a convincing story that government reforms are helping American citizens in practical, tangible ways, whether in finding work, or health insurance.
