“The German Marshall Fund of the United States is looking for a highly motivated Intern (full time) for its office in Warsaw, Poland for a 5 months internship, starting February 1st, 2022.

Candidates are encouraged to check if they qualify for funding provided by their universities, or other similar grants through their governments/national institutions.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to inquire with their university/national institutions regarding the eligibility for funding prior to applying for the position. The German Marshall Fund of the United States does not bear any responsibility in initiating the funding procedure.

The Intern will report to Program Coordinator and will provide support for all programmatic functions of the Warsaw office, including research, event management, database management, and administrative support. This position involves working in an intensive and highly entrepreneurial environment that requires both individual initiative and close cooperation with the GMF staff in other European GMF offices. Please note that the work may be partially remote, depending on the COVID-19 developments upon the commencement of the internship.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

The intern will:

  • Conduct research and analysis on transatlantic relations, European politics, Central and Eastern Europe etc.; monitoring key policy developments in Poland and other CEE countries.
  • Use data storage platform (Microsoft Dynamics) to perform data entry, data management, and data analysis.
  • Facilitate cooperation with other think-tanks.
  • Prepare reports from internal/external meeting, events, and conferences.
  • Support program staff in planning/implementing projects as well as in organizing virtual events, workshops and closed seminars.
  • Provide administrative support to staff as needed.
  • Represent the GMF Warsaw office both internally and externally.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Strong interest in and working knowledge of European and transatlantic policy issues with Central and Eastern Europe regional dimension.
  • Fluency in English required. Knowledge of one or more European languages highly desired. Knowledge of Polish preferred.
  • Working knowledge of online convening platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams.
  • Students of international relations or security, political science, economics, or related fields preferred.
  • Prior experience in think-tanks, international organizations, or political field highly welcomed.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and research skills required.
  • Prior publications highly valued.
  • Self-starter with the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, international, and team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to handle diverse administrative tasks.
  • EU citizenship.
  • Time commitment of 40 hours a week.
