The event is part of the process of receiving a doctorate at Leipzig University and consists of a lecture given in German by the candidate and a subsequent Q&A session in which the members of the committee and all audience members are allowed to pose questions regarding the work a candidate has done in the years of his or her doctoral research. Mr. Bast's defense was successful, and the committee awarded a grade of summa cum laude. Next week, the Fakultätsrat will vote on whether to award the title of “doctor philosophiae” to Mr. Bast.
