Helena P. Schrader Kicks Off This Year's Tranatlantic Seminar

Today, Helena P. Schrader, the Economic Attaché of the U.S. Consulate in Leipzig, kicked off the Transatlantic Seminar 2013. In accordance with this year's theme "Transatlantic Trade, Investment, and Building the Transatlantic Bridge", Mrs. Schrader talked about the economic developments in East Germany after Reunification. The audience consisted of ASL students and eight students from Ohio University's Global Leadership Center.

BA Plus Fellows and Ohio Students Meet With Former US Embassador Tim Timken

As part of a seminar at Ohio University's Global Leadership Center, the current BA Plus Fellows Yada Bekele, Susann Ehrhardt, Marianne Nitschke, and Christian Vette met former US Embassador to Germany, Tim Timken. Mr. Timken visited the GLC to talk with the students about this year's Leipzig-Ohio project on the implications of TAFTA on German-American relations.

Apart from mastering course work and getting used to living in Athens, Ohio, this year's BA Plus Fellows Yada Bekele, Susann Ehrhardt, Marianne Nitschke, and Christian Vette are busy updating their blogs on the BA Plus website. In each entry they share a piece of their experience as exchange students at Ohio University with the ASL community.


BA Plus Community Celebrates This Year's Bon Voyage Get-Together

On Thursday night, the outgoing BA Plus cohort of 2012/13 met with BA Plus director Crister S. Garrett and Program Coordinator Richard Bachmann to celebrate this year's BA Plus Bon Voyage Get-Together. For the first time in the history of the program they were joined by students from Ohio University for the event. Ohio students Sam Miner and Bingxin Huang, who are currently in Leipzig as exchange students, could provide the BA Plus fellows with valuable information about living and studying in Athens, Ohio.

BA Plus Fellows Celebrate 2012 Welcome Back Get-Together

In celebrating the return of the BA Plus cohort of 2011/12, alumni, staff and current fellows of the BA Plus program met on Thursday for the 2012 BA Plus Welcome Back Get-Together.The get-together is part of the BA Plus’s effort to create a vibrant alumni network to allow former and current participants of the program to exchange ideas and talk about their experiences. While enjoying their drinks and delicious Italian food, outgoing BA Plus fellows could ask their incoming peers all sorts of questions concerning living and studying abroad in Athens, Ohio.


REMINDER: BA Plus Townhall Meeting Tomorrow at 5pm in Seminar Room 2.516

A quick reminder to all ASL students who are currently in their second BA year:  The BA Plus Townhall Meeting will take place tomorrow at 5pm in the ASL seminar room 2.516. BA Plus program director Prof. Crister Garrett will be present to inform participants about the overall framework of the BA Plus.


ASL Book Club Meets on Oct. 26 to Discuss Don DeLillo's White Noise

The ASL Book Club is back from its semester break and decided that its time to take a look at a piece of post-modernist literature. For the first session in the new semester we will discuss White Noise, a novel by U.S. author Don DeLillo. The novel touches upon themes such as consumerism, mortality and anxiety; contemporary themes which are depicted in a philosophical way.
