US Diplomat Advises Ohio and Leipzig Students on How to Prepare for Their Transatlantic Summit

U.S. Diplomat Consul Robert Gatehouse from the United States Consulate General Leipzig kicked off this year's Transatlantic Student Summit between Ohio University's Global Leadership Center and American Studies Leipzig with a talk on "The  Politics and Preparation of Professional Policy Memos." Students from Ohio and Leipzig will spend the week in tranasatlantic teams preparing professional policy memos on the ongoing trade negotiations (TTIP) between the EU and the US, focusing on the controversial issue of GMOs.


ASL celebrates Seventh Issue of aspeers

On April 30, 2014, American Studies Leipzig celebrated the release of the seventh issue of aspeers: emerging voices in american studies. aspeers, the first and currently only graduate-level peer-reviewed journal of European American studies, encouraged fellow MA students from all fields to reflect on the diverse roles and meanings of anxieties in American culture.

Our BA Plus Fellows are wrapping it up at Ohio University! Spring semester is ending this week, that means final presentations for our fellows' Global Leadership Center project at the German Center for Research and Innovation in NYC, including sight seeing of course, but also exploring the last bit of OU student life that they had not experienced thus far.

Call for Hosts: Housing for Ohio Students May 11-17

In the week of May 11 to May 17 ASL is welcoming 14 students from Ohio University's Global
Leadership Center here in Leipzig for this year's Transatlantic Seminar. The GLC students are looking for housing opportunities, ideally with ASL students. If you would like to host one or two students, please send an email to asl-baplus@uni-leipzig.de

Your help would be very much appreciated by the students. Previous hosts have greatly enjoyed the cultural exchange with American students who are eager to learn about Leipzig and German culture.


BA Plus Fellow Reports for German Newspaper from Ohio

BA Plus Fellow Maria Fricker wears the hat of a weather reporter for Freiburg's Badische Zeitung. In a column, Maria writes about her travel to Ohio University in an unusually cold winter caused by the polar vortex. But, no worries, she has made it to Athens, OH safely and has begun Spring semester with four ASL peers, who have also shared frosty experiences on their ASL blogs.


BA Plus Fellows 2013/14 Have Started Their Journey

As is tradition, the ASL BA Plus Team sent off this year's BA Plus Fellows with a Farewell Dinner. BA Plus Program Director Prof. Crister Garrett and BA Plus Program Coordinator Susann Ehrhardt answered last minute questions and prepared the fellows on what to expect in Ohio.
