10. Oct 18:00 - 20:00

LOCATION: Geisteswissenschaftliches Zentrum, Lecture Hall (Ground Floor), Beethovenstraße 15, 04107 Leipzig

Join the American Space Leipzig for a public lecture on how to tackle fake news and the so-called information war with Global Fellow at the Wilson Center‘s Kennan Institute in Washington D.C., Nina Jankowicz.

For her lecture, Nina Jankowicz will focus on examples from Central and Eastern Europe that demonstrate why we need to do more than just fact-check and obliterate fake accounts in order to win the information war.

Nina Jankowicz is currently working on a book about the evolution of modern Russian influence campaigns in Eastern Europe. In 2016-2017, she advised the Ukrainian government on strategic communications under the auspices of a Fulbright-Clinton Public Policy Fellowship. Her writing has been published by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy, Project Syndicate, The Wilson Quarterly, and others.

As always, the event is free and open to the public. The event will be held in English.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Join the American Space Leipzig for a public talk on the exercise of power and democratic participation in the digital age with the director of the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University, Professor Nicco Mele.

Prof. Mele argues that in the digital age governments, corporations, centers of knowledge are eroding before the power of the individual Unless we exercise deliberate moral choice over the design and use of technologies, Mele says, we doom ourselves to a future that renders social structures chaotic and destroys rather than enhances freedom.

As always, the event is free and open to the public. The event will be held in English.

We look forward to seeing you there!
