ASL Partner University Athens, Ohio in Die Zeit

In January 2017, ASL will again send four of its students to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio with the BA-Plus scholarship. Ohio University has been ASL's partner university for more then seven years.

On November 4, Die Zeit published a short portrait of Athens and its unique character as a "liberal island" in Ohio.

BA Plus Fellows and Alumni Celebrate BA Plus Dinner 2015

Earlier this week, ASL’s BA Plus team hosted this year’s BA Plus Dinner. The dinner—which has become a tradition since the BA Plus program started at ASL 5 years ago—provides a space where BA Plus fellows can meet alumni of the program to get some last minute advice on living, studying, and interning in the US. While we bid our outgoing fellows Stephanie Döhling, Kirsten Eikermann, Sameera Grötsch and Friedrich Opitz farewell, we also welcomed back Cynthia Schmitt, Theresa Rieger, Philipp Jago, Jenny Hoang, and Billie Jean Burkert.

REMINDER: BA Plus Townhall Meeting Tomorrow at 5pm, room 4.415

Dear 2nd year BA students,

just a brief reminder for those of you who are interested in learning more about ASL's BA Plus program: We will have a townhall meeting tomorow (Oct. 27), starting at 5pm in room 4.415 (GWZ, 4th floor). 

Prof. Garrett will be there to talk about the program and we will have several alumni in the room who will talk about their experiences with BA Plus, studying and interning in the US.

Within the framework of the BA Plus program, ASL sends American Studies students to the Global Leadership Center at Ohio University for an additional year of studies.

BA Plus Alumnus Returns to Ohio University for Graduate Studies

It’s been a short stint in Germany for BA Plus Alumnus René Grzona. After finishing his BA Plus journey in September 2014, René successfully underwent knee surgery in December, finished his remaining classes by February, completed his BA thesis on “Academic Alienation–The Commercialization of Intercollegiate Athletics” in July, and is back at Ohio University since early August to attend graduate school there.

Ohio and Leipzig Students Wrap Up Transatlantic Seminar 2015

During the second week of the Transatlantic Seminar 2015, the ASL and Ohio student teams were busy refining their policy memos and prepared for their presentations on Friday. After consultations with Prof. Garrett on Tuesday, each team came in for an extended feedback session with the seminar’s teaching staff on Wednesday. The students presented what they had prepared until that point and got some more advice and tips on how to proceed from there.

Getting the Ball Rolling – Transatlantic Seminar Participants Get Input and Feedback for Their Project Ideas

On the second day of the Transatlantic Seminar 2015, Sabine Witt from Engagement Global, a German  government office which supports development initiatives in Germany, spoke to the seminar participants. Ms. Witt talked about the work of Engagement Global, particularly the organization’s cooperative projects with the German military, the Bundeswehr.
