Internship Workshop on December 7

The internship workshop is designed to help BA and MA students who are interested in completing an internship as part of their studies. In the workshop, students will get advice on how to find an internship and apply for it, how to apply for financial support, how to prepare for an internship, and how to get credits for it.

This term’s special guest will be Ms. Katrin Saure from the university’s Career Center. She will talk about internship opportunities for American studies students.

Career Center: Lecture on Possibilities for Working Abroad

On October 25, 2011 the Career Center will host the lecture "Nach dem Studium ins Ausland? Berufschancen und Perspektiven." Ms. Kerstin Näke from the ZAV Auslandsvermittlung will talk about possibilities for working and living abroad after finishing university. She will also address different strategies to find jobs abroad and how to successfully apply. For more information, visit the Career Center's website.

American Magazine Is Looking for Writers

The American magazine German Life is currently looking for writers to cover travel, cultural, historical, and genealogical topics (in English) about Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and German America. The Study Abroad & Internship Roundtable gives interested students the chance to learn more about study abroad and internships as part of their degree program at ASL. Students, who have either studied at a foreign university or did an internship, will talk about their experiences and answer questions.

The special guest will be Christiane Pschierer who works as Coordinator for ERASMUS Internships at the Akademisches Auslandsamt. She will be able to answer all questions relating to ERASMUS funding for your internship.

"Languages Wanted!": Career Center Looks at Possible Jobs for Philology Students

In its current lecture series "Sprachen Wanted!," the university's Career Center specifically addresses philology students. Over the course of May and June 2011, representatives from various job fields will inform students of career options in translating/interpreting, media/publishing, business, as well as educational and cultural work.

"Praxisgespräche" for American Studies Students

The university's Career Center is organizing a series of "Praxisgespräche" in which students have the chance to talk to representatives of major companies about career entry positions. During the summer semester, the Career Center aims to cater especially to social science and humanities majors. Among the aspects addressed during the round-tables are the specific requirements and application processes for entry level positions.

Utrecht Summer School in Belfast

Die Sommerschule "Border of Europe" findet  in Belfast vom 1. bis 12. August 2011 statt.
Die Teilnahme an der Sommerschule in Belfast wird durch die EU unterstützt - keine Kursgebühren! - und kostet die Studierenden insgesamt 600 EUR - die Unterkunft, alle Arbeitsmaterialien, Computerpool- und Internetzugang sowie drei Mahlzeiten bereits inklusive. Darüber hinaus kann über die Universität ein Fahrtkostenzuschuss beantragt werden (ca. 200 EUR).
