SHP Grades, Papers, and Classes in the Summer Term [Updated Thu. 21. Mar.]

While we are all still processing the news of Prof. Garrett's passing, we want to make sure that the ASL community stays informed as much as possible. Please find some basic information below. We will update this news item in the coming days and weeks, so please do check back.

Farewell

Prof. Crister S. Garrett (1962 - 2019)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Prof. Crister S. Garrett. We have lost a wonderful colleague, a dear friend, and an outstanding scholar. Prof. Garrett joined American Studies Leipzig in 2003, bringing a clear vision and a unique energy that transformed and shaped the institute in the years since. His passing presents an immeasurable loss to the institute, to the students, and to the larger community. We will miss him so much.

I'm currently on a one-person study tour through the US to research the ongoing presidential elections. I will post larger, in depth-pieces to American Studies Leipzig's election blog and will use my personal blog below to report on the everyday encounters. More information on my journey is also available in this news item. Please enjoy reading, and please comment or ask questions.

Farewell for Professor Crister S. Garrett

On Tuesday April 2, 5:00-6:30 pm we will convene in the lecture hall in the Albertina (Vortragsraum) to remember our colleague, teacher, and friend Professor Crister Garrett. We are aware that there will be a larger more formal memorial service organized by the university on April 26, but we would like to give the ASL community the chance to come together at the beginning of the semester. All current and former ASL BA and MA students are welcome to join us for this informal get-together.
