LaborUni Project “Teaching America"
E-Teaching, E-Learning, Best Practice
While American Studies Leipzig serves students in the Bachelor-, Master-, and Magister-Program in American studies, it also contributes significantly to the university's training of future teachers. By offering specific classes for teaching students that foster sensitivity for the diversity of American culture and create awareness for transatlantic issues, it actively shapes the way English is taught at German schools.
In this spirit, ASL has launched a project called ''Teaching America: E-Teaching, E-Learning, Best Practice'' in 2012. Generously funded by the university's initiative Laboruniversität, it facilitates a dialogue between teachers, students, and the university. The central and most visible expression of this intersection of academia and the professional realm is the project's web portal. This online platform helps teaching students create effective teaching resources, while it also allows current teachers to use and evaluate these resources for their classroom purposes.
Overall, the innovative project seeks to strengthen the teaching program and enhance the applicability of its contents and teaching formats. Moreover, it promotes media literacy and the use of new technology in the classroom for both current and future English teachers.
