Cancellation of Literature and Culture I Module / Möglicher Ausfall des Moduls Literature and Culture I

Cancellation of Literature and Culture I Module

We regret to inform you that the module Literature and Culture I may have to be canceled for the upcoming Winter 2010/11 term. The University of Leipzig has decided to block one full teaching position for a time span of five months. This effectively deprives American Studies Leipzig of two seminars worth of teaching capacity, making it impossible for the institute to offer the Literature and Culture seminars announced in the course catalog. The institute has asked the university to review this decision.

200000 Hits for a Global Community

Over the last few years, Leipzig's American Studies homepage has evolved into a communications hub on American studies in the region. The frontpage alone has, as of this week, received 200'000 clicks since the homepage relaunch in May 2008. More importantly, over 70 of a total of approximately 470 registered users have subscribed to our automatic buzz newsletter and receive updates on new items on the page at least once a week.

To celebrate this success story, we have looked at where our users come from. If you are a registered user, you can enter your home region as part of your user profile. Visualizing this information gave us the map below. Note that this is not simply a map of our clicks, it is a map of our registered users! It is great to see that American Studies Leipzig is a truly international community already.

American Studies Leipzig Announces the BA Research Track BART

Effective immediately, American Studies Leipzig will offer a new and experimental project-driven format of instruction specifically for BA students with a taste for research and a desire to sink their teeth into scholarship early on. The BA Research Track (BART) is a unique opportunity to participate in American Studies research during the BA education. It answers to a demand we diagnosed in our internal student survey in the summer of 2009.
