 European Summer Schools Offering Classes for Students of American Studies

Dear Students,

Please take note of a variety of European summer schools offering classes this summer. Some of their programs might be of particular relevance to students (graduate and undergraduate, depending on the school) of American studies and related fields.

The Clinton Institute Summer School at the University College Dublin, Ireland, will offer workshops on the topics of "American Studies in the Obama Era," "Globalizing American Studies," "Photography," and "Studying and Teaching American and African-American Literature from Anthologies," taught by renowned scholars such as Donald E. Pease, Liam Kennedy, and Werner Sollors. The summer school takes place from July 8 to July 15. The deadline to apply for tuition scholarships is March 12. The International Summer and Winter University of Freie Universität Berlin (FUBiS) will offer a large variety of different classes. Of particular interest to students of American studies might be the course "America in the 21st Century: Crises, Challenges, and Chances," which is part of FUBiS Term III (July 14 to August 11). The Fulbright Commission offers ten scholarships for this program in particular. See the Fulbright website for more information on how to apply for such a scholarship; the deadline is February 29.

The International Summer School Seggau at the University of Graz, Austria, will be held on the topic of "Leadership and Education: The Future of Europe?" The summer school offers two lecture series and a selection of different seminar modules. It takes place from June 30 to July 14. The application deadline is March 18. The International Summer School at the University Potsdam will offer classes on the topic of "Minor Cosmopolitanisms" from July 9 to July 13. Applications are due by February 29. Please refer to the website of the summer school for additional details.
