ASL and GACC CA start internship cooperation

Submitted by Christina Harms on Mon, 01/21/2013 - 08:19
On January 15, 2013, ASL students took the opportunity to inform themselves about internship opportunities with the German American Chamber of Commerce California (GACC CA) in Leipzig. Prof. Crister Garrett welcomed GACC CA Executive Director Steve Riedel, who spoke about the different functions GACC CA has, for example the J1-visa service or helping businesses to coordinate transatlantic relations. Steve Riedel emphasized the importance for students to gain professional experiences abroad to sharpen one’s profile. Particularly American studies students, Mr. Riedel said, need to find their niches on the job market.

The roundtable also announced the beginning of the internship cooperation between ASL and GACC CA: Starting in April 2013, GACC CA will offer students the possibility to intern at the Leipzig office during the summer term, and to gain credit for their SQM. The interns will assist GACC CA with creating a transatlantic news ticker targeted at medium-size companies. The internship thus offers the chance to become familiar with a very diverse field of businesses as well as to gain professional hands-on experience in an international organization.

Below you can find a more detailed internship description for MA and BA students. The application deadline is February 25, 2013.

If you have any questions, please contact ASL internship coordinator Katharina Freitag. She can be reached at asl-internship@uni-leipzig.de. Ms. Freitag has herself just recently completed a six month internship at GACC CA.
