 Inauguration Lecture by Leibniz Professor John B. Boles - Jan. 7

American Studies Leipzig and the Institute of Advanced Study, University of Leipzig, present the inauguration lecture by Leibniz Professor John B. Boles January 7th, 2010. The lecture is titled “New Orleans: Past, Present, Future.” Boles will pose the question if the city known for its food, music, and joie de vivre will be able to recover economically and demographically in the future, after hurricane Katrina devastated the city leading to a calamity of far-reaching consequences in 2005.

John B. Boles, who taught at ASL in 2005/06 as a Fulbright professor, has returned to Leipzig for another semester. He has been appointed the Leibniz Professor at the Institute of Advanced Study, University of Leipzig, for the winter semester, 2009/10. Professor Boles is a distinguished expert in Southern History, author of ten books and William Pettus Hobby Professor of History at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
