Submitted by Franziska Böhme on Thu, 04/21/2011 - 20:15

On Tuesday, 19 April 2011, American Studies Leipzig celebrated the release of the fourth issue of the graduate journal aspeers. Among the 30 guests who joined the launch ceremony at the Albertina were ASL faculty and students as well as this year's editors and friends and three contributors to this issue. In her introductory speech, Prof. Anne Koenen praised the project as a unique feature within the European university landscape and thanked editor in chief Sebastian Herrmann for his outstanding and committed work on the project. Then, Sebastian Herrmann, who has been teaching the project since its start in 2008, reflected on the evolution of the journal, changing editorial policies, and the excellent performance of this year's editors. Before the editors and present contributors were awarded their copies of the journal and certificates documenting their accomplishments, one of the editors, Nadezhda N. Panchenko, shared insights into their experience of the editing process.

aspeers: emerging voices in american studies is Europe's first and currently only graduate-level peer-reviewed journal in American studies. The publication project is part of American Studies Leipzig's MA program. This year's issue is organized around the topic 'Nature and Technology Revisited' and features five academic contributions, four creative contributions, and an interview with Prof. David E. Nye.
