“Obama 2.0” was a workshop specifically designed for English teachers to learn about and discuss Obama’s second term presidency.

21 teachers from all over Saxony joined the event, consisting of two talks by Professor Crister S. Garrett and Professor Paul S. Rundquist on the challenges of realizing real change in a country as complex and diverse as the United States of America.

After the talks and discussions, American Studies Leipzig conducted a special workshop for the teachers, introducing its LaborUniversität project “Teaching America”: a portal, which wants to bridge the gap between university learning and high school instruction and bring new media directly into the class room.

Thus, the workshop was not just a great opportunity for teachers to learn about current political and social issues that are neglected or not addressed in English school books, but also an invitation to create and foster a platform of communication between university and school.
