Submitted by Eric W. Fraunholz on Tue, 12/10/2013 - 13:50

On December 3, 2013 the American Space Leipzig was officially opened. In the presence of Rektorin Beate Schücking, and United States Ambassador to Germany John E. Emerson and Mrs. Emerson, over eighty invited guests celebrated the inauguration of the first American Space in Central Germany (Mitteldeutschland). Joining some ten other such instutions throughout Germany, but until now exclusively in the former West Germany, American Space Leipzig will serve as a platform and resource for scholarship, exchange, and learning that focuses on German-American relations and transatlantic ties more generally.

As American Space Leipzig director Crister S. Garrett put it, "With this initiative, Leipzig and Mitteldeutschland have created a unique resource that will enrich campus and community engagement with the United States and the transatlantic relationship."
