American Studies Leipzig is honored to announce Calvin Baker as the holder of the Picador Guest Professorship for Literature in the summer term of 2013.

Located in New York, Baker has taught at a number of institutions of higher learning, such as Columbia University and Barnard College. The Amherst College graduate has published three novels, Naming the New World, Once Two Heroes, and Dominion, which was a finalist for the Hurston-Wright Award and one of New York Newsday's Best Books of the Year. In 2005, Baker was named on of the best young writers in America by Esquire Magazine.

Professor Baker will be teaching two classes during his term as the Picador Professor for Literature. You can check them out here.

The Picador Professorship for Literature at the University of Leipzig is unique in Germany. Located at the University's American Studies Program, it is based on a partnership between the Veranstaltungsforum der Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck, the DAAD, and the University of Leipzig.
