Next Picador Professor Calvin Baker
Located in New York, Baker has taught at a number of institutions of higher learning, such as Columbia University and Barnard College. The Amherst College graduate has published three novels, Naming the New World, Once Two Heroes, and Dominion, which was a finalist for the Hurston-Wright Award and one of New York Newsday's Best Books of the Year. In 2005, Baker was named on of the best young writers in America by Esquire Magazine.

The Picador Professorship for Literature at the University of Leipzig is unique in Germany.
