The 5th BA Plus Dinner Brings Together Fellows and Alumni of the Program

On Tuesday night, ASL’s BA Plus team hosted this year’s BA Plus Dinner. The dinner, which has become a tradition since the BA Plus program started at ASL almost 5 years ago, provides a space where outgoing BA Plus fellows can meet alumni of the program to get some last minute advice on living, studying, and interning in the US. While we celebrated the send-off of the 2014/15 cohort which will leave for Ohio in early January, we also welcomed back the 2013/14 fellows.

Great Turnout at Yesterday's BA Plus Townhall Meeting

About 15 interested 2nd year BA students participated in a townhall meeting yesterday to inform themselves about scholarship opportunities offered through ASL's BA Plus program. Program Director Crister S. Garrett and Program Coordinator Richard A. Bachmann gave an overview of the BA Plus as such before program alumni Linda Esch, Julia Rabe, Carlo Becker, René Grzona, and Rafael Eggebrecht talked about their personal BA Plus experiences.

REMINDER - BA Plus Townhall tomorrow at 5pm - scholarships available

Dear students,

just a brief reminder for those of you who are interested in learning more about the ASL BA Plus program: We will have a townhall meeting tomorow (Dec. 10), starting at 5pm in room 2.115 (GWZ, 1st floor). 

Prof. Garrett will be there to talk about the program and we will have several alumni in the room who will talk about their experiences with BA Plus, studying and interning in the US.

ATTENTION 2nd year BA students – BA Plus Townhall Meeting on Dec. 10

American Studies Leipzig, in close cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), is pleased to announce that it plans to award up to five BA Plus fellowships to second-year BA students this year. Within the framework of the BA Plus program, ASL sends American Studies students to the Global Leadership Center at Ohio University for an additional year of studies.

ASL Book Club Meets on Monday July 15, at 6pm to Discuss Jack Kerouac's The Dharma Bums

As the semester is coming to its end, the ASL Book Club will meet once again. This time, we’ll discuss Jack Kerouac’s The Dharma Bums, a novel that depicts its author’s celebrated zest for life, and his search for ultimate truth, from a different perspective than his highly acclaimed On the Road did.

The Quintessential American Community? - Prof. James J. Connolly on the Creation of Middletown as a Cultural Icon

On June 28, 2013, Prof. James J. Connolly was invited to give a presentation as part of ASL's Summer Lecture Series 2013. Prof. Connolly, who is the Director of the Center for Middletown Studies at Ball State University, outlined how Robert and Helen Lynd's study Middletown: A Study in Modern American Culture has established Muncie, Indiana as "the quintessential American community".
