 Summer Internship with AICGS at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD

Internships with the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) provide a professional and educational experience in a not-for-profit organization that aims to strengthen the German-American relationship. AICGS offers unpaid internships to undergraduate and graduate students in the spring, summer, and fall. Interns typically are assigned to projects on a priority basis and are exposed to the Institute’s different departments (Research/Publications, Development/Outreach, Public Policy, Administration/Finance).

Interns are expected to work between 20 and 35 hours a week during the following cycles:
Spring: January-May. Application deadline is October 1
Summer: June-August. Application deadline is March 1
Fall: September-December. Application deadline is June 1

Tasks:

  • Event management
  • Taking notes and writing summaries at AICGS events for website and newsletter
  • Daily English and German language newspaper survey
  • Contact database work
  • Research support for Institute staff and fellows for various projects and events
  • Administrative/Financial project support

Requirements:

  • Interest in transatlantic relations and Europe/Germany
  • Knowledge of the German language is helpful but not essential
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel) and internet research skills are required
  • Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Highly motivated to work in a small organization on a variety of projects
