 Publishing Internship with Plural Publishing, San Diego

San Diego based Plural Publishing produces leading academic and professional publications in the fields of speech-language pathology, audiology, and otolaryngology (head and neck surgery). Plural’s editorial internship program is designed to introduce college students and/or recent graduates to book publishing, and will provide them with valuable hands-on publishing experience.

Plural Publishing currently has an opening for an unpaid editorial internship. The intern provides assistance to the editorial team and will learn how to perform a variety of duties, including processing submitted manuscripts, mailing contracts to new authors, assisting with permissions requests, and performing tasks such as data entry, scanning and photocopying materials related to Plural’s publications. This internship does NOT involve writing or editing. It will last 3 months from the start date.

Tasks:

  • Converting PDFs to Word for books going into a new edition
  • Corresponding with authors and contributors
  • Reviewing associated audio and visual content for quality
  • Attending weekly editorial and production meetings
  • Working on special projects as assigned
  • Assisting other departments on an as-needed basis

Requirements:

  • A strong desire to learn about book publishing
  • Currently enrolled in BA/MA or recently graduated
  • Preferred majors: English, Communications, Journalism, Linguistics, etc.
  • Detail-oriented, able to meet deadlines
  • Self-directed, can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills and knowledgeable in MS Word and Excel
