 Communications and External Relations Internship, New York

IAP is an international human rights organization that seeks to end forced eviction and create new global policy and practice for development that respects people's homes, environment and human rights.

The internship requires a minimum two-month commitment for at least 16 hours per week. Internships are unpaid, but a small stipend for local travel is available, if needed. The internship is at IAP's office in NYC.

Successful candidates will be strong writers with backgrounds in international affairs, development or human rights. Our two main areas of work, Change the Rules and Support the Frontlines, have four programmatic initiatives. (For more information on these different programs, please visit the website)


  • Writing and requesting blog posts and social media activities to further the project objectives
  • Supporting the strategic global production and distribution of the final Global Advocacy Team's report
  • Working to ensure all development finance institutions respect human rights
  • Curating, writing and promoting how organizations and communities campaign for their rights
  • Managing specific content and updates to the www.bankonhumanrights.org website
  • Supporting general organizational and administrative initiatives like IAP public events, IAP trainings, organizational work planning, program evaluation and other organizational tasks as required.


  • Candidates should have significant international experience and have completed at least an undergraduate degree
  • Exceptional undergraduate students and others with relevant school, work and life experience will be considered
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Experience writing and editing articles or blogs - Wordpress a plus
  • Experience editing websites - Wordpress a plus
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications a must
  • Ability to work independently and multitask effectively
  • Sense of humor and flexibility
  • Previous NGO experience preferred
  • Experience with Photoshop/InDesign a plus
  • Additional languages a plus
